Creators' Statement

Our feature script has been carefully developed over the past 18 months through multiple revisions, workshops, and mentorship. The script was workshopped at FilmShop (https://www.thefilmshop.org/), where Mary is an active member, allowing for valuable peer feedback and story refinement. Additionally, the project was vetted by Mary’s mentor, Jerry Perzigian, a seasoned professional at Jacob Krueger Studios, providing expert guidance on narrative structure and character development.

We have submitted the script to the Austin Film Festival’s screenplay competition and the Gotham Week Project Market for consideration and are awaiting news on those opportunities. The script is registered with the Writers Guild of America East (WGA-E) and the U.S. Copyright Office, ensuring formal protection of our intellectual property.

Our collaboration began after meeting on the festival circuit, where our shared values and creative vision inspired us to develop this story rooted in educational communities in Middle America. The character of Siobhan is inspired by Mary’s upbringing in an education-focused household, her father was a high school principal and her mother an elementary school teacher. Mary herself has taught children from ages 3 to 18, while Kyle’s mother was also a teacher. These personal experiences ground our storytelling in authenticity and empathy.

Mary, an award-winning SAG-AFTRA actress, writer, and filmmaker, brings experience creating acclaimed series and features, which enhances the storytelling and production quality of our current project. Kyle and Kirk, as the Farx Brothers under JK Productions, have produced multiple genre shorts and features with a strong emphasis on inclusive, safe, and collaborative sets.
